In this weeks blog post we have the gaming releases, gaming news, and some entertainment news to keep things entertaining to read… sort of. This if for the week of August 23rd to the 29th of 2020 and it covers the news that caught my interest. With all that said let’s get on with the snapshot of what’s gone on.
Wasteland 3 –
You are once again a ranger in the wasteland of the United States after a horrific apocalypse. Arizona is in such disarray that you’ve gone to Colorado on hearing the promise of help if you help out there. This strategy RPG is a turn based action game developed by inXile Entertainment and published by Deep Silver for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It came out on August 28th 2020.
Project Cars 3 –
The simulation racing series returns though perhaps a little less simulation heavy this time around. Take to over 200 vehicles onto tracks in single player and multiplayer as you race to be the best and claim first place. Released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 25th 2020 from developer Slightly Mad Studios and publisher Bandai Namco.
Madden NFL 21 –
The American football series returns for a new year of action, crazy plays, and the hopes of winning it all in the Superbowl. The sports simulation series continues unabated since 1989 as it continues its reign as one of the few footballs games. It was released on August 28th 2020 by developer EA Tiburon and publisher Electronic Arts. The game came out on the Xbox One, PC, and PS4 platforms.
Over the Alps –
A game in which puts you in 1939 Switzerland with the task of getting across the country while avoiding the police and keeping many secrets. It is a narrative thriller adventure game where things can change depending on what you do. Developed and published by Stave Games it previously released on Apple iOS and PC but now comes to Switch as of August August 25th 2020.
Lab Zero Games appears to have fallen completely apart with the several of the development studio staff leaving thanks to a disagreement with the owner of the studio. There are allegations of sexual harassment and abuse against head of the studio Mike Zaimont. The IP’s of Skullgirls and Indivisible are not owned by the studio so any development for those games will be moved by the publishers to another studio. If you wish to learn more of what’s going on head over to Dualshockers.com who have a rundown of what’s happened.
Ugly situation where the staff feel that they aren’t being taken seriously by the company and now people feel they have no choice but to leave.
Developer Frogwares has decided to remove their game The Sinking City from digital stores. They say this is because publisher BIGBEN/Nacon have breached their contract and handed code from their game to another developer, despite not owning the rights to the code. Along with failing to make payments for goals and units sold. The publisher Nacon denies all of this and says that they will sue the developer. You can read both sides of the story from gamewatcher.com.
This is the second time in recent memory where Frogware has had issues with a publisher. If all of this is true it reflects really poorly on Nacon and if it isn’t what is Frogware doing? It’s a mess of a situation either way that seems really off.
A new Lord of the Rings game is sneaking its way into the news. Daedalic Entertainment is working on such a game which is titled The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. It will be centered more around stealth then the last few Lord of the Rings games which concentrated on action adventure.
The teaser has me curious to see what they’ll be doing with this game. Though it is a teaser that shows absolutely nothing so it is a bit hard to get really excited about it.
Nintendo dropped a mini partner direct showing off games from other developers. Mostly musical games that have you playing along with the beats of songs. There are of course other games but the showcase was dominated by music based games.
It was unfortunately not a great showcase and felt lacking in much content. Sadly it seems that this is how Nintendo is going to play out the rest of this year with drips and drabs. I don’t mind that much as long as there are a game or two that manage to catch my interest. This showcase didn’t have that while last week’s indie world did.
Netflix is creating a TV series around the Resident Evil gaming franchise. It looks to be a live action show that will be centered around villain Wesker’s children Billie and Jade in New Raccoon City. The creation of the series is being handled by Andrew Dabb. This was reported via Variety.com who have the full story.
I don’t know about this… the movie franchise really went downhill after that first movie which wasn’t all that great in the first place, though I do like that first movie. I don’t have high hopes that this will turn out well, but you never know. I’d love to be wrong that this and for the show to turn out well. But with Netflix turning out content as fast as it possibly can and the films not having the greatest track record it seems like a project that will probably be lost and forgotten in a few years.
