An angry week in games, well most of the anger seems directed in a single Blizzard like direction. Welcome to my latest blog post about the week that was in gaming releases, gaming news, and a touch of entertainment news. And just to make sure that this is out there, I cover the news that caught my interest for the week.
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince –
The wizard, the knight, and the thief are once again brought together to going adventuring. This time it is to save the young prince Selius who suffers from dark dreams that cannot be controlled as his magical abilities run rampant and enter the world. This game marks the return of the 2.5D side scrolling puzzle action that dominated the first two games. The game released on October 8th, 2019 from developer Frozenbytes and publisher Modus Games. It released on Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
A reboot of the arcady with simulation elements racing game. It has you racing through a variety of tracks and car series to claim the championship in each series. The game was created and published by Codemasters who released it on PS4, PC, Xbox One, with a Google Stadia version coming. It came out on October 11th, 2019.

Released by developer Serious Sim and published by Game Operators and PlayWay S.A. on PC it released on October 10th, 2019.
Blizzard Entertainment has pissed off many of its fans yet again, only this time not because of Blizzcon. This time it is about the banning for a year and stripping the winnings of competitive player plus banning the two broadcasters who were commentating from the tournament. This came from comments about the Honk Kong situation and how the pro player wanted Hong Kong to be free. The situation has snowballed into a bigger fracas, with consumers protesting and some Blizzard employees walking out of work. Blizzard has since decided to reduce the ban on both the pro player and the game broadcasters to six months. They have also reinstated the players winnings. You can check out the Hearthstone Blog for the original ruling from Blizzard and their new statement vis the Blizzard Blog. Some people on the Hearthstone Reddit are calling out that Blizzard’s statement in China goes against their statement in English.
This is interesting because it is a potential piece of history repeating itself. During the 1930’s the U.S. film industry essentially gave into the biggest overseas market if they wanted there movie shown and that was Nazi Germany. Now we have companies like Blizzard, the NBA, Apple, Google, and Disney bowing down to China over worries about losing a massive market and the money that comes with it. They’re stuck in a hard place where you either wind up pissing off the existing user base or lose money. Most companies seem to choose the money.
Doom Eternal has been delayed. Developer ID Software has decided that the game is not in a fit state to be released and pushed it to a March 20th, 2020 date.
It sucks but what are you going to do? At least the developers can fine tune the game to be even better, hopefully, and the now how a much less crowded release schedule to compete against.
If you live in the Great Britain and suffer from game addiction there is good news. The healthcare service NHS has opened the first gaming addiction clinic for those suffering from addiction. Check out the British newspaper The Guardian to learn more about the clinic.
It’s good that those who suffer from such situations can get help. I do fear that gamers will be a little bit against this as they’re protective against things that might be construed as something that can be used as games are bad. We need to help those that need that help and put aside our fears of how it looks to others.
Sony has revealed a bit more about the upcoming Playstation 5, including that it will be called that. It will support Ray-Tracing support through the graphic processing unit (GPU). The controller will feature haptic feedback, which is an upgraded rumble feature. Plus of course a new UI to improve consumers shopping and easy of experience on it. The console is aiming for a 2020 holiday release. The Playstation Blog is where you can learn more if you’re interested in the bits of information that you might get.
It’s nice to have these small pieces of information so that people can start to see what is being sold to them. I don’t care much about ray-tracing, but the rest of it sounds pretty good. I’m wondering if the haptic feedback rumble will be similar to the HD rumble in the Switch which hasn’t had many games make too much use of it. There are still many questions that Sony has yet to answer and they probably won’t until next year. But, it’s fun to wonder and think about what little they have talked about.
The Cowboy Bebop live action remake(?) has started production under the production title Jazz Band for Netflix. The series will star John Cho as Spike Spiegle, Daniella Pineda as Faye, Mustafa Shakir as Jet, Alex Hassell as Vicious, and Elena Satine as Julia. Expect the series sometime in late 2020 to sometime in 2021 depending on how heavy the shooting schedule is and the CGI. This information comes from hnentertainment.com.
I’m trying to remain positive about this series but none of it feels particularly right. Of course I’m waiting for the first trailer to give me a better look at what it will offer. But, it hasn’t inspired any amount of confidence in me from what I’ve seen so far and read about. Also, the music needs to be there, Yoko Kanno made the anime standout and without that level of music to help it might fall flat.
