Rushing about with the latest in this weeks blogging gaming post.

A new week is upon me and there is stuff to talk about. Mostly game releases this week oddly enough. But still, here is the week of April 21 to the 27, 2019 in the form of gaming releases, gaming news and entertainment news that caught my attention.

Game Releases:

Imperator: Rome

Rule the land and an empire as you start in 450 AUC (BCE) as you attempted to build out what will be known as Rome. This is a grand strategy game in a similar vein to Paradox Interactive’s other games Crusaders King’s 2 and Europa Universalis IV. It was created for PC, Linux, and Mac by Paradox Interactive Development Studio and is published by Paradox Interactive. The game released on April 25th, 2019.

Mortal Kombat 11

The savage brutal fighting game with over the top finishing moves and crazy characters returns for its eleventh fight. It returns to the 2.5D stages that were in the previous two game as you fight it out to save or doom the world. Developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment the game released on April 23rd, 2019. It came to the Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and PC. In Europe the Switch version has been delayed until May 10th, 2019 to get everything right for the release.

SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech

A role playing card game where you are fighting an ancient evil that has been unleashed on the land. Use your hero and the cards you collect to fight your way through turn based fights. The game features a 2D hand drawn world for you to experience. Released on April 25, 2019 for the Switch by developer Image & Form International AB and published by Thunderful Publishing AB. The game will likely come to other consoles and PC at some point in the future as they have plans for it.

Day’s Gone

The global pandemic that killed half the world and turned many others into creatures known as “Freakers” now rests in the past. It’s been two years since the events and you play as Deacon St. John in this survival horror trying to survive in your loner ways. The game is in an open world so you’ll have plenty to explore as it tries to kill you. The game was developed for the PS4 by SIE Bend Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment on April 26th, 2019.

Gaming News:

Atlus much loved Persona 5 is getting a revamp with Persona 5 Royal for the PS4 which adds a new character, new areas to explore, and whole bunch of other content to keep you busy. It will release in 2019 in Japan and 2020 around the world for PS4. Also revealed was Persona 5 Scramble a brawling hack and slash in the vein of Dynasty Warriors but set in the world of Persona 5. The game will be coming to PS4 and Switch but does not currently have a release date.

This is the usual cycle when it comes to Persona release a game and then several years later release a revamp that adds some cool stuff. A lot of Switch fans were hoping and praying that they’d get a port of Persona 5 which obviously isn’t happening now. Plus the game that they do get is a disappointing spin-off of Dynasty Warriors of which the Switch already has a few of those. Those types of games are certainly popular with their audience it just isn’t what everyone hoped for. I also wonder if Scramble will wind up coming to the west? I’m not sure how well spin-offs of Persona do sales wise that would encourage Atlus to bring it elsewhere. I guess we will see.

Speaking of the Switch, Nintendo has announced the release date for the upcoming Super Mario Maker 2 as June 28th, 2019 via a tweet.

This is good news and I figured that it would release somewhere around there, in fact I was pretty sure it already had a release date for some reason. Now I think the only thing that remains is to have a Direct event and explain how level sharing is going to happen. Please don’t let it be through a phone app and just have a space in game where you can find stuff.

Mortal Kombat 11 is caught up in a controversial launch as people are frustrated with the grind or as they see it microtransactions to get all the skins. Ed Boon the creator of the franchise has said it is not possible to buy all the skins and that the price of 6440 USD is false. The controversy started over on reddit with a post that has since been locked and the original post removed but you can still check out the thread.

And anger wins the internet again. NetherRealm should have known better than to make the game too grindy. But that should easily be fixable. The internet however will never change and give into the anger and shouting to appear right.

The creators of Planet Coaster are working on a new park style management creation game. This time it will be about Zoos and called stunning enough Planet Zoo. It will be about building up a zoo to attract visitors and then expand your zoo/park.

This looks like a pretty sweet take on the zoo tycoon genre. Now the only problem is that the previous game Planet Coaster didn’t really do much on the management side and was more an ascetics game. While there is nothing wrong with that, I feel like people want more of a challenge when it comes to tycoon games. They don’t want it to just be building and building and perfecting that one piece of a park or a zoo so it looks just right. There is usually a sandbox mode for such things. Hopefully there is a little bit more to this game.

Entertainment News:

A new trailer for Men in Black International released. It showed off the international MiB branch in London and the fact that it has been compromised in some fashion. The film stars Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth and arrives in theaters on June 14, 2019.

I don’t want to be mean, but the whole time I was watching this trailer I felt like all of the scenes were done in front of a green screen. It didn’t look pretty at all. While using a green screen isn’t a sign of a bad movie, when it feels like that’s what your seeing it does make the whole thing feel off. I get that feeling from this trailer, it just wasn’t strong or good enough to entice me into seeing it.

The Hulu mini-series Catch 22 got a full trailer and release date of May 17th, 2019. The series is based off of the famous novel and was brought to be by George Clooney was was set to direct the series while also having a role and producing. But dropped out of directing it. The series is a darkly comic look at World War 2 as a squadron of B-25 U.S. bombers try to survive the ever increasing mission limit which pushes the shows main character Yossarian to his limits and to discover the beauty of a catch 22.

I love the novel, I’m okay with the original movie though I’m not the biggest fan of it. This trailer didn’t really feel right to me either. It felt to slick, too smooth, too nice for what is supposed to be awkward. And the actor playing Yossarian didn’t feel right either. I’m not sure why I’m not completely feeling it but with this and the teaser trailer my excitement for the show is done to meh. I’ll probably catch the first episode to see if there is anything there or my feelings were right.
