A weak week of video game stuff happened, and sometimes that just happens. But, I’m still going to cover the game releases, news, and maybe a touch of entertainment news for April 7th to 13th, 2019. Please know that I cover what has caught my interest and I thought worth sharing to those that might not have heard about it.
Dangerous Driving –
A Burnout inspired racing game where it is as much about crashing as it is racing. Made by a small team of developers, Three Fields Entertainment a couple of who worked on Burnout they created it for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 and released it on April 9th, 2019. The PC version is currently an epic game store exclusive.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy –
The trilogy series that got a bunch of people into adventure games that divide into two sections, detective work and a court case. You must help out the people in need and prove them innocent of the crimes that they’ve been accused of and maybe find the guilty party. This now arrives on consoles – Xbox One, PS4, and Switch as well as PC for the first time. It was developed by CAPCOM CO. LTD who published it as well on April 9th, 2019.
Slime Tactics –
Imagine you have an army of the weakest creatures and those creatures happen to be slimes. Use slime to take over and fight in this voxel pixel world from developer altairworks and publisher Flyhigh Works and came out on April 11th, 2019 for the Switch. It plays out as a turn based strategy role playing game.
If you’ve been waiting to be able to change your name on your Playstation account there is good news as you’re now able to do so. This effects your online username but it has caused some weird issues with a few games where your old user name will show up instead. The first change is free but you will be charged up to 9.99 USD if you don’t have a Pro account which will charge 4.99 for a second user name changes and the price will cost more for a third change. For all the details check out the Playstation Blog for all of that juicy news.
It’s nice that this is being offered by Sony even though its taken a long time to get the free change. It really is something that they should have had at launch and it is a bit sad that we’re nearing the end of the PS4’s life cycle.
Focus Home Interactive has announced its slate of video games for the year. Announcing projects with Saber Interactive, Games Workshop, Gasket Games, Sumo Digital, Lightbulb Crew and others. They’re also bring games/porting projects over to the Switch as well as working on mobile games.
A nice slate of games that we don’t know much about really. It’s nice to see that they’ll continue to support games as a publisher and hopefully this solidifies them as a good company to go to for those games that aren’t necessarily indie or triple AAA style titles. The industry seems to struggle with anything between those two so if a company can support and help developers make money in that area gaming on a whole will be better for it.
John Romero has delayed his original DOOM mod Sigil though the game is completed. He’s waiting for the Beast Box version to ship to those that ordered it to release the game. The new release date is set for May 1st, 2019.
While the delay sucks, it is understandable as you don’t want to piss off those that paid for the actual box version of the game. We still get the game, but it is just coming that slight bit later then originally hoped.
The upcoming real time strategy game Iron Harvest from developer King Art Games has found a publisher in Deep Silver. This news came from a development blog post over on the Iron Harvest website.
Similar to Focus Home Interactive, I have hopes that Deep Silver will become a great second party publisher. Giving us more titles that aren’t indie or AAA. It’s also helpful to the studio to get that marketing push it might not otherwise see. The game has me curious to see what comes from it and now it might be able to recoup its expenses.
Octopath Traveller the well loved role playing game on the Switch will be getting a PC release. It will be out on June 7, 2019. There doesn’t appear to be any changes to the Square-Enix game and that it will likely be a direct port. That said, the blog post with the announcement has now been deleted but the game does appear to be coming. If you head over to Gematsu.com they have the deleted blog post from Square.
This is a great piece of news for PC gamers and for people who get to experience a weird yet fun world that is Octopath Traveller. It isn’t a perfect game, but people love the music of the game and the experience they had. It’s great that more people now get to experience it and hopefully the port is a good one, though it is the Unreal Engine so it should mostly be fine.
Jason West formerly of Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment has been hired by Epic Games. He’ll be working on game development but it is unknown what games.
Hopefully, Mr. West is going to be working on something new and original that can get the love it deserves. His previous series Titanfall is well loved but never reached the sales numbers that it probably should have.
Disney+ has been revealed in an investor meeting that was live streamed for some 3 hours. Unveiling the old shows and movies that would be coming. Along with the new stuff in the form of old new Disney Properties like a Sandlot TV series based on the movie. Of course there will be a plethora of Marvel and Star Wars shows. The service will launch in the United States on November 12, 2019 for 6.99 a month or 69.99 for a year. The plan is to have it available world wide two years after it has launched. Heading over to IGN.com will give you a full rundown of the upcoming shows that Disney has planned for the service plus the stuff ready to go.
Aside from The Simpsons coming to the service I haven’t seen a single reason for me to need this. I don’t care about Star Wars or Marvel all that much. It will not be the streaming service for me. My only question is will the price remain at 6.99 USD for long. I’m expecting it will start going up as small competitors start drop out of streaming.
The second season of The Tick landed on Amazon Prime on April 5th, 2019. It picks up in the aftermath of first season with The Terror now captured and new villains coming to light. AEGIS the superhero organization that organizes superheroes and keeps them in check.
I should have talked about this last week, but I wanted to watch the full season before I gave my thoughts on it. Overall it retains the fun silly nature that was around by the end of the first season. My only complaints are that it felt a bit short even in ten episodes so they couldn’t explore as much as they wanted to. Also I might be the only person who isn’t in love with the whole Dot and Overkill pairing. They’re nice together but it doesn’t work as well as I think it could. Overall it is a great show that many people should go watch if they have Prime. I want a third season.
Brockmire has also returned for its third season on IFC with a now sober Jim Brockmire the still very disgraced baseball radio host. The show airs on Wednesday’s at 10 pm.
This is just a dark comedy that needs to be loved by more people. Seriously, it is great and Hank Azaria kills it in this role. More people need to see it for its pure oddity and frankness that is missing from so many sitcoms.
