The gaming news, releases, and a touch of entertainment news is here for November 25, 2018 to December 1, 2018. Please know that I don’t cover all that has happened during the week and concentrate on the news that caught my attention.
Darksiders III –
The action adventure hack and slash game returns with more four horsemen of the apocalypse and many creatures to try and get in your way. You play as Fury who is sister to War and Death and you have the job of hunting the seven deadly sins. It was developed by Gunfire Games and published by THQ Nordic. The game was released on November 27, 2018 for PS4, Xbox One,and PC.
The DOTA based card game and the first Valve created game to be released in a while is out now. It is a digital card game where you pit your cards against those of another player to see who can win. It was designed by Magic the Gathering’s Richard Garfield and came out on Steam on November 28,2018.
The latest amusement park building game is here. Design you amusement park, set it up just the way you want and do your best to keep the guests coming in for more and more rides. Trap them there if you must. Originally an early access title, the game now reaches full release status on PC and Mac.It fully released on November 29, 2018 after being developed and published by Texel Raptor.
PlayStation Classic –
The original PlayStation is back in mini form with twenty games loaded onto it plus the classic non-dualshock controller.
Nintendo notorious for lagging behind on the technology curve has made one small step towards being a touch more friendly to let’s plays on say YouTube. They are no longer taking a cut from any such videos as long as they’re creative and have some sort of talking/dialogue of the player going on. This news comes from a press release on Nintendo’s Japanese website.
Hey Nintendo managed to figure out that taking a cut from YouTube let’s plays isn’t worth it. They’re learning but fairly slowly. One would hope that this leads to over more friendly changes, but seeing how slow Nintendo tends to be adopting things I kind of doubt it.
Red Dead Online for Red Dead Redemption 2 is now online as Rockstar slowly rolls out mode for gamers. You can now play with your friends wandering around the land murdering or helping at one another.
The chaos is no surprise, the terrible economy in game is also no surprise. Over all, it is just another Rockstar and Take Two game where they don’t know how to balance the online portion of a game between fun and rewarding. It looks like the economy is more of a free to play style game where grinding is the name of doing everything.
A new World War 2 multiplayer shooter is on the horizon thanks to developer Black Matter Studios with the help of publisher Team17. It’s called Hell Let Loose and the game will enter early access in January 2019 offering a combined arms approach of feet on the ground and vehicles.
This looks like a pretty cool team based game. I don’t know how well it will turn out but it has that feeling of immersiveness that seems to be lacking in a lot of first person shooters. Mostly because they go for an over the top arcade feel. I want more of a balance between arcade and realism and this looks like it could do it.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will soon be looking into loot boxes to see if they constituent gambling and need to be curtailed in some manner. They have been pressed into action by congress to look into the matter. If you head over to broadcastingcable.com you’ll get the full story of what’s going on.
Well this will likely only confuse matters that much more. Everyone is going to look into loot boxes and come to different conclusions and few of those will probably agree with one another. It’s just going to cause a lot of confusion until one major group can get the rest to follow its lead, which ever road that may go down.
Guacamelee! 2 will soon arrive on the Xbox One and Switch. Originally out on PS4 and PC, it will arrive on December 10, 2018 for Switch with the Xbox One version arriving in January 2019.
I love the look of this game, and just wanted to make sure that people were aware that the game is coming to other consoles.
Netflix is creating a bunch of animated works based around the stories of Roald Dahl. His work includes Matilda, James and Giant Peach, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Though they do not have the rights to all of his works, notably missing is The Witches. This news comes from TheHollywoodReporter.com where you’ll find the full story if you’re interested.
I think it is the wrong thing to call this a sort of Dahl universe. Ever since the Marvel universe it is the in phrase to call a collection of movies or shows or whatever a universe. Let’s just let the series be made and see what comes of them. No need to rush in and give silly names to things when we don’t even know if that sort of thing will happen.
From animated to live action we go, as Netflix has announced that they will be making a live action adaptation of the much beloved anime Cowboy Bebop. The creator of the anime Shinichiro Watanabe will be joining the production of this adaptation. The first season will be a ten episode run but there is no release date or casting news yet.
Oh dear. This will either end well or you will have fans from the original series revolting and campaigning against it before the casting news is even announced. I know there has already been a lot of people online simply saying No to the idea. I love me some Cowboy Bebop so I’m leaning more towards hoping that its good but with the sinking feeling that it will be meh.
The Marvel Netflix deal is definitely coming to a close. Daredevil is the latest show from the partnership to be canceled. One of the highly rated Marvel shows on Netflix by both critics and fans. It had three seasons of fun and action. Deadline.com has the full report.
It is sad to hear but Netflix wants complete control of its content as does Disney. They don’t want to share properties with another company because it splits profits away. So, this move seemed mostly expected since the cancellation of Iron Fist and Luke Cage. At least that’s the way I saw it trending.
Amazon released the trailer for the third season of The Grand Tour. The three muppets: the dinosaur Jeremy Clarkson, captain slowly James May, and crashy Richard Hammond are up to more shenanigans. The new season won’t premier until January 18, 2018 with an episode every Friday until the season is completed. This may in fact be the final season for the show as the trio signed up for a three season run, so it remains up in the air if they will continue.
I’m both happy and sad as this may be the final season, but I’m glad that we finally have a date for the premiere of this season. I wonder if they will be back, or if this is it since they’re all getting old and well aren’t in the best of shape as they themselves would point out.Still looks like a fun follow up season to a good second season. They did mostly miss out on what made things special with the first season, but it still had some good parts.
A new Philip K. Dick adaptation is occurring and it will be an animated show for Adult Swim and Crunchy Roll. What will it be? Blade Runner and it will be called Blade Runner Lotus. Joining the creative team will be Shinichiro Watanabe who created the anime short film Blade Runner Black Out 2022. This comes over from Variety.com who of course have the full story.
Watanabe seems like a great choice to help lead this project creatively. He has experience with creating crazy worlds and has some beloved anime shows to his name. I’m curious to see what comes of this.
In sad news the creator of SpongeBob, Stephen Hillenburg, passed away after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He started out as a Marine-Biologist teacher who also loved art and eventually combined the two after he decided to take a risk and change careers by going back to school for animation. Once he graduated he went to work on Rocko’s Modern Life and then creating the amazing hit that was SpongeBob SquarePants.
His creativity will be sorely missed along with the cheer and laughter that he managed to bring to so many fans.
