A slice of the week of gaming news to tide you over

Games and more games are here to be talked about for the week of October 21 to 27, 2018. This means that the releases, gaming news, and some entertainment stuff will be discussed. Of course, I don’t cover all that has happened, as I concentrate on the things that catch my interest.     Game Releases: Thronebreaker: AWitcher’s Tale – An RPG that is in an isometric style but battles play out with card battles. You have an over world that you collect supplies in and build up your army to fight. This game is set in the world of The Witcher. It came out on Ps4, Xbox One, and PC on October 23, 2018. It was created and published by CD Projekt RED.
Red Dead Redemption 2 – John Marsten’s story continues or rather we get a look into his past. This is a prequel to Red Dead Redemption retaining the open world where you’re a thief who helps run a roving gang. Created by Rockstar Studios and published by Rockstar Games on October 26, 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One.
Lethal League Blaze– A sports game all about getting the ball and keeping it while beating up your opponent. It features fast pace combat and lots of music to keep you pumped and in the fight. The game came out on October 24, 2018 and developed by Team Reptile for PC.
Party Hard 2 – A stealth strategy puzzle game in which you’re a serial killer who must sneak around parties dispatching people. And of course, you don’t want to be found out too quickly so, you’ll have to hide bodies and keep out of sight only to spring yourself on unsuspecting victims. Developed by Pinokl Games Kverta, and published by tinyBuild it came on PC on October 25, 2018.
Gaming News: If you’re curious about the working conditions of Rockstar after last weeks hubbub. Kotaku has a full report on it with a lot of worker and former workers talking about their experiences. It is an interesting peek into the often harsh world of game development. Eurogamer.net also published a story talking about the condition over at Rockstar that don’t paint a pretty picture of what it is like to work there. Many people have pointed out that there are similar condition in many work places across the gaming industry and other industries. However, that doesn’t make it right and that the working conditions feel so forced will only wind up hurting creativity when it comes to making games. Such a harsh work environment will potentially lead to a drop in quality in the game and thus fan complaints that the new game isn’t as good as the old ones and on and on into a downward spiral. I’m not saying it will happen, but Rockstar should be aware that such things can happen to even the greatest of companies.   Two games removed from Steam due to rights issues are returning to the store. Alan Wake which had to leave due to music rights is now back after Microsoft arranged to renew the music licensees for the game. The other which will have to wait a few weeks is Hellgate London. Which arrived as a single player game on Steam, then left, then came back as early access MMO of sorts only to leave again. Well it is back as a single player game. The tweet below has all the Alan Wake news, and PCGamer.com has the Hellgate story.
I’m glad that Microsoft worked out the music issues with Alan Wake as the game very much is ingrained with how the game plays out. It’s disappointing that music licenses expire and that it can cause such a drastic change in a game, but is also slightly understandable as musicians want the right to renegotiation such contracts to make sure they’re getting paid properly. Unfortunately, that means many old games that aren’t popular just let things slide by because it isn’t worth it to pony up the money for a new contract. And as for Hellgate, well, I’m on the fence about it, it’s good to see it back but I’m waiting to see what they’re actually putting forth before I can really put my opinion out there on the matter.   The Vatican has endorsed and independently developed game, where you go around collecting saints. It plays much like Pokemon Go does. Head over to eurogamer.net for their report on what’s going on. This is a curious and amusing piece of news. I’m not sure how popular it will be, though I say that and one only has to look as far as the Christian movie industry to see that its possible to rake in money. I wish the game all the luck in the world, but I’m not sure that it will make many waves in the rest of the gaming community.   The upcoming Team Sonic Racing will not be coming out this year and will be delayed until the spring of 2019. This news comes to us from IGN.com. Always sad to hear about game delays even though usually they’re for the better. I haven’t been particularly impressed with what I’ve seen from the trailers. And the last game in the series is pretty much universally beloved, so this game taking a bit more time for improvement probably is a good thing.   The twisted fate of preserving old video games just got a touch easier for historians. The Library of Congress is allowing exceptions and exemptions to be made to enable preservation. Read all about it over on Motherboard.Vice.com. Overall this is great and grand news. Games should be a part of history and they are. Now it is just slightly easier to make sure that we have the piece of our past. Now the downside is that this only covers single player games and other software. Multiplayer games are still a difference matter and hopefully they can be included one day so that they aren’t lost to the annals of time.       Entertainment News: The creator, John R. Dilworth, of Courage the Cowardly Dog has announced that a prequel series is in the works. This new show would not be for Cartoon Network where the original cartoon ran but for Boomerang. The original facebook post has been either removed or made private, but you can read the rumors over on syfy.com. I’m not sure who asked for this but okay. I’ll be curious to see what this project entails exactly. I loved Courage when the cartoon came out but never became a rabid fan. I’ll be curious to see what if anything comes of this.   Wonder Woman 1984 has been delayed for a second time. Pushing it from November 2019 to June of 2020.
It is a bit surprising that the delay has happened, but then again it was dropping a mere month after the planned stand alone Joker movie. Sometimes it is a bit better to let your movies breath and make money. Plus the first WW did such a great job during the summer and this gives the movie that much more time to make sure things are just right. Hopefully WB doesn’t mess up the situation.   The Joker movie coming in October of 2019 has some casting news as it brings on the butler Alfred and a  young Bruce Wayne. Dante Pereira-Olson will be playing young Bruce Wayne with Douglas Hodge taking up the mantle of Alfred. Head over to Comicbook.com for the full report. People seem to be all up in arms about this, which I don’t understand at all. This movie seems more and more like an Elseworld movie where everything is off and different. To me that’s what makes this project so interesting. It might be the blogs looking for something to complain about, but really it is no big deal and they might not even get that much screen time in the movie. People really seem to want to cry about this movie before its even completed and ready to be shown.   Apu will be leaving The Simpsons. After recent backlash over the character being a stereotype The Simpsons producers and writers have decided that the character will no longer be a part of the series. With reports that he’ll be quietly pushed off the show, no longer heard from or seen again. If you’re curious about the potential but not fully confirmed loss of Apu go over to Indiewire.com. I’m sad to see Apu go as I loved it whenever he popped up. His character was always such an interesting one who lived a crazy life. He may have been a stereotype but like many characters on the show he did have depth to him. Hopefully if he does go from the show, they at least keep him around on the mobile game Simpsons Tapped Out.   Pirates of the Caribbean might be getting rebooted by Disney and might not have star Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. This exclusive report comes from Deadline.com who are saying that Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are the likely writers for the potential film. Those two are perhaps best known for the Deadpool movies and Zombieland. I’m not sure why Disney would do this so soon after the last film came out just last year (2017). But, whatever Disney seems to be in full on reboot and reload with their movie franchises all becoming live action. It’s just the way things are with them I guess.     And we conclude this week’s blog post on that last story. Thank you for visiting and for any comments. If you wish to leave any such comments, you of course can do so in the section below, or find me on Twitter @Snipehockey, or emailing me at Lostvideogamesblog@Gmail.com.Alright have a good week until the next blog post where I will also wish you to have a good week.
