A mumbling bumbling week of game releases, game news, and some entertainment has arrived and seeks attention. Of course little of that is true as news can’t talk and I just like to write rambling nonsensical nonsense known as sentences. I’m covering the week of September 23 to 29, 2018 and what news has caught my attention.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 –
This turn based strategy game is in alternate world that sees an outbreak of a world war. It’s set during the same time period as the original game but with a differing cast. Originally released in Japan in March of 2018 it now gets a worldwide release on September 25, 2018. It was developed by SEGA CS3 and published by SEGA for Switch, PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
FIFA 19 –
The beautiful game once again returns to the pitch. At least I’m pretty sure that’s the nickname given to soccer. EA Sports once again delivers a video game version that encompasses much of the sport giving you a lot to play with. Released for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch it was developed by EA Vancouver along with EA Romania and published by the aforementioned EA Sports. It was released on September 28, 2018.
FORZA Horizon 4 –
The arcade racing game all about exploration and well racing returns. This time taking the racing around the United Kingdom. Like previous games there is a story mode to race around with, but really this is a way to collect cars. Developed by Playground Games and published by Microsoft Studios it was an early release date of September 28, 2018 for those that bought the ultimate edition and a regular release date of October 2, 2018. It came out for the Xbox One and PC.
Sony has had a change of heart maybe, kind of, on a game by game basis potentially. Cross-play is being tested by Sony through the battle royale game Fortnite. If this is a success you may see more games be allowed to connect with other gamers playing on other consoles/pc. Since this is a beta test of potential cross-play it is still very much on a game by game basis and its up to Sony to decide which games can connect for the test. It is available as of September 26, 2018. You can check out the Playstation Blog for all the details.
This is a step in the right direction from Sony, especially after so many mixed signals and flat out denials that it would ever happen. The downside of course is that it may only include a handful of games unless the demand for it becomes loud. We will have to see how this plays out but it is good for consumers.
One game that will not feature any cross-play whatsoever is the upcoming Fallout 76. Bethesda had originally said that for it to happen it had to work on all consoles and PC that the game came out on. Now they’re saying that it isn’t being worked on at all for Fallout 76.
I’m not sure why or what is going through Bethesda’s mind at this point. I can only guess that they acted as gamers when they saw something effecting other games and didn’t look at themselves and what they are making. It would certainly make for a nice addition to the game since so many people play games on so many differing platforms these days. Alas it seems it won’t happen.
Codemasters surprised a lot of people by coming out of nowhere with a new DiRT racing game. They’re going back to hardcore rallying with DiRT Rally 2.0. It will be arriving on February 26, 2019 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
While I’m glad that Codemaster’s is doing another hardcore rally game, this trailer did almost nothing for me. I have high hopes for the game, but with only six rally stages its sort of not high on my list of games that I’m trying to pay attention to.
As a result of the closure of Telltale Games the former studio is being hit by a lawsuit from former employees for breaking labor laws. The employees claim that they did not receive advanced notice of the closure and they were let go without cause. This news comes from Polygon.com.
I’m not a lawyer so I have no idea how this is going to fall out. It could go any number of ways but it seems hard to prove that they were let go without cause as the closure seems to be all you would need for cause. I hope the employees get their fair due and that things work out for them.
Make sure you clear out some space for Read Dead Redemption 2 as it will have a large install file size that will shrink down once the game is fully installed. The game looks to be clocking in at 105GB needed for the install.
It seems like a lot of space and it is a lot of space for a game but once the game is installed and running it should be a bit smaller. It’s always a bit weird to me that some games need much more space to get all the files unpacked and installed on a device and then suddenly the end install is much smaller file size.
Apple who had teamed up with Dr. Dre to make a television show have now scrapped that plan. The show which was set to include violence, an orgy, and drug use goes against the family friendly nature that Apple wants for its shows. You can check out the whole story from EW.com.
What in the world is Apple thinking? Why would you give a show to a rapper who is not known for rapping about drugs and violence? Did it not register in their minds that Dr. Dre was going to make a show that is what it is and not for all families? It’s just a bit crazy and the more I hear about Apple and how it is solely aimed to please their own CEO Tim Cook. Yup, this soon to be TV streaming service seems to be off to a rocky start.
The X-Men franchise has a new movie coming out titled Dark Phoenix. It will be the last in the franchise from Fox if the Disney merger goes through. It’s all about Jean Grey who has had her mind messed with by Charles Xavier and now she’s going a bit crazy as a result. Originally it was coming out in November 2018, it was pushed to February 2019, and now even further into June 2019. Fox has also made a slew of other changes to their film schedule which Deadline.com has a full report on.
I kind of dig the trailer. It feel generic in places but overall it caught my interest which is amazing since I have pretty much checked out of the X-Men film franchise since the reboot and maybe even from before then. As for the date push back, well it doesn’t seem like a good thing as this movie has been in post production for a long time.
The Will Farrell and John C. Reilly comedy Holmes and Watson released its first trailer. The film revolves around Sherlock Holmes and his partner John Watson solving a crime commuted by Moriarty. If the duo fail to solve the crime the Queen of England will be killed. The movie is due to come out on December 21, 2018.
Ouch, this trailer was not great. I know a lot of people still have hope for this movie as Farrell and Reilly are so great when they do films together. But, if this first trailer is anything to go by it might be their first miss.
