Gaming News –
Smash Brothers Ultimate got a Nintendo Direct video so that they could show off five new fighters, three new ones, and two echo fighters. This time the Castlevania series gets into the fight. We have a much requested echo fighter from Metroid, and a new one from Donkey Kong. Adding to the mayhem is the 100 levels which each have two other variations of it giving over 300 levels. Then there is the 600 plus songs to jam out to while playing or just to listen to on the go with handheld mode.
They’re really trying to make this the ultimate experience by throwing in so much content. I loved King K. Rool’s introduction portion of the video. Also people are up in arms about Luigi getting murdered by a demon which I fund amusing that people are that concerned over his well being. Overall, pretty good looking game so far.
Rockstar released a 6 min trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 showing off a bit of game play and what they’re planning for this game. They want to create an open world that is constantly busy with things to do. You’ll also have to take care of or at least help out with your gang’s base camp. The other touted feature is the decisions you make, to kill a character or let them live, to interfere with events and so on.
The game without a doubt looks gorgeous. But, I’m not sold on it, as I don’t trust Rockstar or publisher Take-Two interactive to keep micro-transactions out of it or even to make the multiplayer less of a grind fest. Also they have game labelled as a sequel aka 2, when it is in fact a prequel to Red Dead Redemption. Someone over at Rockstar isn’t aware or doesn’t care about proper labels for their games.
Re-releases are still all the rage on the Nintendo Switch and Ubisoft is bringing two last generation games to the console. Those would be Valiant Hearts the World War 1 side scrolling adventure game and Child of Light. The tweet that announced Child of Light also hints that a sequel may be in the works. It also appears that Ubi is canceling the port of Steep for the Switch. Check out the tweet below for the Child of Light news and its potential sequel. Gamespot has the full story on Valiant Hearts which will come out on November 8, 2018 and Child of Light being released on October 11, 2018. For the news on the Switch version of Steep you can check out the official tweet from the developers which I linked below.
It’s great to get good games on the Switch, even from previous generations of console. At the same time, you want to see these bigger companies take that risk and put newer properties on it as well, but we don’t see that happening as mush which is disappointing. For the game Steep it’s sad to hear that it is canceled, but that game came and went quietly for the most part and well it isn’t much of a surprise that Ubi doesn’t want to invest money into a sinking project.
A new Torchlight game is coming, but minus Runic Games the original developers who were shut down. It should be pointed out that Echtra the new developer is made up of some veterans from Runic. Titled, Torchlight Frontiers, it looks to be an RPG of some sort for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
I’m not sure how I feel about this mostly because the trailer felt a bit all over the place. It could be good, but it didn’t show me anything other than a CGI scene that I guess was supposed to get my hyped up? I’ll keep an eye on it, but I’m not expecting much of anything out of this.
Young Souls and indie side scrolling beat’em up with a bit of a dungeon crawling feel got its reveal trailer. Other than the trailer not much is known about the game.
The art in this trailer really made me a fan of it, despite the lack of information involved in this project. Hopefully this game doesn’t get lost in the sea of games that come out and disappear just as quickly, though it does seem to be trending that way.
Another indie game Scarf a 3D action adventure game, where you use your scarf to help you traverse the world, got a reveal trailer. This game is coming to PC sometime in the winter of 2018 or beginning of 2019.
This game as well the art style wowed me. It’s a good looking game that hopefully lives up to this good looking trailer.
On a case to case basis Germany has lifted a long time ban on the usage of Swastikas in video games. The ban which targets many symbols that were considered to be a part of fascist, communist, or white power movement.. This ruling eases up a bit as games are sometimes considered art.
I am surprised that this happened as I figured that Germany would never ever look at the rule. Turns out I was wrong. I wonder if older games like Wolfenstein will ask to be looked at and allowed to restore the old artwork or if they will only look at the games going forward. Either way it will be curious to see how this plays out for games. You can check out the report on CNN.com.
You get a game app store, and you, and you. Joining the fray of applications that have allow you to download and purchase games will be the chat service Discord. This comes from Variety.com who reported on it.
Well I don’t think anyone expected this news. I’m all for competition even if it getting to be a bit of a crowded field so I’m not sure how well this will work out. Time will tell if it was good or just a waste of everyone’s time.
With Quakecon in full swing Bethesda and ID have shown off more of RAGE 2 and DOOM ETERNAL. There is more action, guns, and over the top violence for both games. Both games are set for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. DOOM ETERNAL however will also be making its way to the Switch thanks to port masters Panic Button with it set to launch simultaneously to the game coming out on other devices.
If you’re looking for mayhem, action, explosions, and perhaps a fair bit of mindlessness these two games seem well worth checking out. They both look to have satisfying gun play, brutal actions that the player can perform and just all around fun looking game play.
Finally, a quick teaser of Risk of Rain 2 was released showing the new 3D world in which you’ll be spending time shooting at creatures who want you dead. And it appears everything wants you pretty much dead.
For such a small little teaser it looks great. My only issue is that everything seems so big compared to your character which is an okay choice making it feel like its you against the world. I just worry that if everything looks big compared to you, then you’ll lose all sense of wonderment and it could get tiresome.
Sonic the Hedgehog the live action movie adaptation has had some casting news. Playing Dr. Robotnik will be Jim Carry and then doing the voice work for Sonic will be Ben Schwartz.. The movie is currently scheduled for a 2019 release. Read all about the stars of the movie via The Chicago Tribune.
This movie will either be exactly like every other game movie and crash before it even hits theaters or will be such a twisted mess that people will want to go see it. I’m not sure which I’m rooting for but I will wait for a trailer before I make a decision.
Shane Black the director of a lot of good buddy cop style movies and detective movies, notably Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and The Nice Guys has announced that he wants to make a sequel to The Nice Guys. The problem is that the film made 36 million at the box office which is not good enough to warrant a sequel. And mostly we are hearing about this because Shane Black is making the new Predator movie and people want to talk to him about previous projects and projects going forward. There is a report over on Cinemablend.com if you’re interested.
It’s nice to know that Shane Black wants to work on a sequel that might never happen. The Nice Guys was one of my favorite movies from 2016 so that there is always potential for a sequel has me happy even if it never happens.
The Oscars are changing even if you think that the academy doesn’t have the faintest idea of what it is doing. The major changes are the addition of a popular movie category, though popular has yet to be defined. The whole event will only be a three hour broadcast on ABC. Finally, in order to fit everyone in they will be giving out awards during the commercial breaks. Head over to The Hollywood Reporter for what’s going down.
This reeks of trying to make an awards show for TV audiences without thinking about the actual awards. It’s really weird that the academy is deciding to do this right after ABC which is owned by Disney landed the broadcast rights for the ceremony. If you were into conspiracies one might claim that the popular category will go to a Marvel movie or some other big Disney movie. I don’t buy it, but who knows what exactly the board of governors of the academy are thinking.
