Gaming news has come marching in making a fuss and wanting the usually amount of attention for itself. Thus I shall pay a bit of attention to the week of May 13 to 19, 2018. I will also point out that I don’t cover all that’s happened during the week, mostly it is stuff I found interesting and worth sharing.
Far: Lone Sails –
An adventure puzzle game where you’re traveling across a desolate former ocean sea beds in your steampunk style vehicle. You must pick up fuel along your journey and keep you massive vehicle in running order for you to keep going. Released on PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PS4 on May 17, 2018. It was developed by Okomotive and published by Mixtvision.
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition –
An enhanced port of the Wii U version, this game is a hack and slash that pits you as one of the many characters from the Legend of Zelda franchise who must defeat the hordes of enemies that stand conveniently in your way. The game was co-developed by Omega Force and Team Ninja while being co-published by Koei Temco and Nintendo. Originally released on 2014 for the Wii U it now is out for the Switch on May 18, 2018.
Battlefield will soon have its reveal of what is officially being called Battlefield V. The reveal comes next week on May 23, 2018. The event will be hosted by comedian and Daily Show host Trevor Noah. Gamespot has the full news story for you to check out.
This will either go well or wind up as most video game held events hosted by comedians end in a lot of cringe. Hopefully it turns out well, but alas I have no confidence that this will be any better than sub par with much cringe induced comments.
Delays make the gaming world groan, but are often a necessary evil. Shenume 3 is the latest to have to push back its planned release. It is now scheduled for a first quarter of 2019 release. This news came from Endgadget.com who has the whole story.
Since there has been so little heard from this game generally speaking, it isn’t much of a surprise to see this game delayed. I still hope that this game turns out well, but the longer this one goes the more the series becomes a bit of a distant memory.
The call of the wastelands has come or at least returned as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is back in production and set for a 2021 release. Originally announced for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 back in the day and then shelved, it now comes back to life maybe according to eurogamer.net.
I’m always up for more adventures in the exclusion zone. Hopefully a more optimized and better running game this time around and that the game actually can make it to release.
Microsoft has a new controller for their Xbox One console and it is intended for those with accessibility issues. It will cost 100 USD to purchase and will be available later in 2018. Check out CNET.com who have the entire creation story of this unique fun controller.
Not really much to say other than this is a great thing. More gamers getting to play games is always a great thing. The only other comment is that I hope that Sony and Nintendo follow suit, as well as PC games becoming more accessible.
RAGE 2 which was rumored and then teased and then had a teaser trailer, all within a short period of less than a week, released a game play trailer. The game is being developed by Avalanche Studios for Xbox One, PS4, and PC and might have a 2019 release date. If you wish to stay up to date on the game and its latest news check out Bethesda’s Rage 2 web page.
This is a rather fun trailer with a bit of a Mad Max feel to it, plus wild amounts of shooting to get everything entertaining looking. I look forward to seeing more of this game and its zaninesss at least that’s what I hope is coming from the looks of the trailer.
Nintendo’s Switch Pokemon game appears to have two different names as Nintendo registered Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevvee. Rumors have the games being an updated version of Pokemon Yellow and have some aspects of the mobile game Pokemon Go integrated into it. All of the swirling rumors have been nicely rounded up on USgamer.net.
Ummm, those are pretty terrible names and if the developers really are planning to bring in some aspects of Pokemon Go… no thanks. For the first regular console version of Pokemon none of this sounds promising or the least bit interesting. I’m wondering who at Game Freak thought any of this sounded good?
Another delayed game will be the pirate multiplayer adventure game from Ubisoft, Skull and Bones, will be setting sail for a 2019 release date. This news is courtesy of PCGamer.com.
This was a game that caught me a bit by surprise when it debuted at E3, as it looks fairly cool and sounds cool, but the execution from the trailers I’ve seen haven’t won me over. Add in that it seems to only revolve around ship combat with no apparent plans for hand to hand combat and well my interest tanked. Maybe this delay will deliver a game that can manage both ship and hand to hand combat, but I’m not holding my breath.
The next COD which is Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 got its multiplayer reveal and that’s pretty much all there is to the game that will not have a single player aspect. And of course zombies will still be haunting and trying to tear your limbs off in a game mode. When the game launches on PC it will only be on the battle.net launcher. Arstechnica had a chance to play the game and write about it if you wish to read more about the game.
I don’t think anyone is really surprised that Activision is making Call of Duty into a multiplayer only sort of game. The questions and worry I have is them supporting such a game. The reason a Team Fortress 2 or Overwatch work is that the developers are continually working on said game improving tweaking and adding stuff. If I’m paying 60 USD for such a game, I really want the developer to hammer home that they’ll be supporting this game for at least two years before I make that jump to consider the purchase.
Then there is the news that Best Buy will be ending new subscriptions to their Gamers Club program which offered discounts on video games. For those who have a subscription it will remain active until you reach its expatriation date and then will end. This news is circulating thanks to a Tweet from Wario64 on Twitter.
Not a great thing for Best Buy as it seemed like it was the only reason many gamers would visit actual Best Buy stores. The only reason that I can think of for them cancelling the program is that they’re failing to make money off of it.
The Queen biopic movie starring Rami Malek titled Bohemian Rhapsody got its first trailer. The movie will look at the glam super group rock band and a bit of their background. It will be released on November 2, 2018.
Watching this trailer left me a bit puzzled as to what it was trying to achieve, because it didn’t feel like it was trying to draw me in as much as it was stuffing in Queen songs where it could. Not that I mind all the songs, just a bit of an odd choice. I can’t decide if I am looking forward to this one or not, it’s just not a great trailer that leaves me with the impression that makes me want to see the next trailer or the movie.
