Another week of running down the latest in gaming.

A week of gaming news is here that and a random and a not very nice snow storm which knocked out the power for a bit also happened. Anyway I’ll be covering the week of March 4 to 10, 2018. Please note I do not cover all that’s happened, just the stuff that managed to catch my interest and held it. On to the mad mad world of gaming.

Game Releases:

Chuchel

A comedy adventure game from Amanita Design. It’s all about exploring and clicking your way through a colorful yet odd world. The game was released on March 7, 2018 for PC.

Gaming News:

The Division is officially getting a sequel. The MMO shooter will continue to tell the story where Manhattan, New York City, NY has become ground zero for a smallpox outbreak spread through dollar bills. This leads to a world where everyone fights over everything. A slew of studios will be working on the game including: Ubisoft Reflections, Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Annecy, Ubisoft Shanghai, and Ubisoft Bucharest. There is a blog post on Ubisoft’s website that has the announcement.

I’ll be curious to see where they’ll take this story and how they will improve upon the first game without feeling like a step back that Destiny 2 suffered from. Hopefully though, they pull it off as the first game always seemed to have a lot of promise.

A new game mode will soon be battling it out on the battle royale game Fortnite. Coming is a battle that has you teaming up with 20 people to take down other teams of 20 players. Also a mobile version is coming which will be able to play against PC and PS4 players. Gamespot has the news story on the 20 player battles and Forbes breaks down the mobile version on their website.

I’m not very good at Fortnite so this mode might help me get a bit better, but probably not. It is good however to see that Epic Games is continuing to push and evolve their game. There is nothing worse than sitting back especially when it comes to big multiplayer games.

Diablo 3 is heading for the Nintendo Switch. Wait no it isn’t. No it is! In the grand scheme of things, no one is quite sure if the game is or is not coming to the console. Blizzard have said that there are currently no plans for such a port. This comes after a social media post in which Blizzard plugging in a diablo nightlight and switched it on and off several times. The report that it is indeed coming is from Eurogamer.net.

From the reaction of a lot of eager fans it does seem to want it to come, yet right now it isn’t coming. Maybe it will come at some point down the road but don’t hold your breath as it won’t be of much help to anyone.

Speaking of Nintendo they held one of their Direct video events to announce a slew of stuff. There is still quite a few ports but some interesting news as well. The original Luigi’s Mansion will be heading the 3DS and be remastered to work on the handheld. Splatoon 2 is getting its first expansion which you will have to pay for but it lets you play as Octolings and includes more single player content. Okami HD which came out on other consoles late in 2017, will now also make its way to the Switch for the summer of 2018. South Park’s Fractured But Whole will also be making its way to the console. Dark Souls was known to be coming, but Nintendo felt it appropriate to praise the sun god with a Solaire Amiibo figure. Then there is Undertale which will eventually be making its way onto the Switch console when the port is good and ready. There was still more announcements as Nintendo went over how they’re changing Mario Tennis from the previous game, and we got a release date for Octopath Traveller of July 13th, 2018 with a nice special edition as well. Finally to wrap it all up Nintendo ever the teases showed off a title screen for Super Smash Brothers for the Switch and that it was coming in 2018.

There is a lot that happened in this direct, though most people will either be screaming about a new Smash game. It’s good to see lots of stuff coming even if it is quite a few ports, though it is also concerning as people want new and fresh experiences. I’m looking forward to seeing more of Octopath Traveller as it looks truly unique.

State of Decay 2 is coming soon, in fact it was given a May 22, 2018 release date and a 29.99 USD price point. Once again you’ll be trying to survive against hordes of zombies on Xbox One and PC. Over on IGN they have a 20 minute video showing off the first look of the game.

It looks like a nice sequel to the original game, with improvements including four player co-op action. It also now runs on the Unreal 4 engine instead of the CryEngine.

A new puzzle game has been announced. It’s one where you either deform the land or yourself to help you solve the puzzles that have been presented to you. It’s called Semblance and it will be coming to PC and Nintendo Switch.

This has a nice cute look to it. And while it isn’t unique in its puzzle solving the trailer makes it feel like it has a nice charm to it.

Valve has a new game coming out, but everyone is a bit tentative whether this is a return to old Valve of making games or its a one off situation. Gabe Newell the founder of the company has come out and said that they’re working on more games after becoming a little jealous of Nintendo and the games that they’ve made. PCgamer.com has the full story as well as the latest on Valve’s new game Artifact.

I’m not convinced that Valve is suddenly back in the making game business. Steam makes them a lot of money and as anyone familiar with them will tell you Valve time means that it takes years for anything at the company to come to life. So only time will tell if this jealousy will actually bring back the Valve that makes games.

Entertainment News:

Jon Favreau is entering the world of Star Wars as he’s planning to produce and write a live action TV series for Disney’s upcoming streaming service. This story comes from Variety.com.

Disney seems intent to wring every single dollar it can out of Star Wars, even if it does bring on fatigue for the franchise. Granted they pretty much have already gotten their money’s worth out of it. All that said, I like Jon Favreau and I’m sure he’ll create an interesting series, but I don’t care about Disney’s streaming service so I’m a bit torn.

The Soprano’s is getting a prequel movie and this is coming from the shows creator David Chase. It will be titled The Many Saints of Newark and is set during the 1960 riots in Newark, NJ. Deadline.com has the full report on the upcoming prequel.

I not to long ago finally watched the entire series and wasn’t impressed. I can see it was a good series being well acted, written, and directed. It just wasn’t for me. I could potentially be interested in this if it doesn’t wind up feeling to similar to The Soprano’s, but I’ll wait and see.
