This is a busy week in gaming due to Gamescom in Cologne, Germany kicking off its week long event to show off upcoming games to the world and mostly Europe. Anyway, this week of August 20 to 26, 2017 will be wrestled and dealt with by me. I’m only covering the news that managed to catch my attention and that I thought worth sharing once again. If I missed out on something that you think is worth talking about please feel free to hit me up.
Madden NFL 18 –
American Football is back as the new season gets ready to swing into action. You can play as any of the 32 teams or as a player on one of those teams. You’re goal as it is every year is to win the Lombardi trophy and be the best of the best. The game is developed by EA Tiburon and published by EA Games for the PS4 and Xbox One. It came out on August 25, 2017.
F1 2017 –
The high speed racing series from developed and publisher Codemasters once again hits the track spinning its wheels and aiming for first place. This comes as the second half of the F1 season begins to chase its way towards its grand finale of another season. The game came out on August 25, 2017 for Xboc One, PC, and PS4.
Escapist 2 –
Escaping from prison is once again in vogue and pixels. It comes with an improved system of excaping, co-op, and more craftable items. Now you have crazy places to try and escape from while teaming up with or against friends. The game is developed by Team 17 and Mouldy Toof Studios while being published by Team 17. It was released on August 21, 2017 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One with a Nintendo Switch version to follow at a later date.
Frontier, the creators of the popular Planet Coaster, have announced a new title that teams them up with a well known franchise. You’ll still be building a theme park per say, but it will be filled with dinosaurs that you’re trying to keep caged up for the entertainment of your visitors. Titled – Jurassic World: Evolution, its due out for the summer of 2018 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
This could be a pretty cool little game in the vein of Zoo Tycoon and of course Planet Coaster with crazy designs and management going on. The only question will be to see if the developer decides to put the game in Early Access first like they did with Planet Coaster.
Age of Empires is returning and no this time it is not just a definitive version or an HD remake, though a definitive version is coming for the first three games. No, Relic Entertainment is making an actual fourth game called Age of Empires IV. The announcement trailer is concept art images with no game play. There’s also a trailer showing off quite a few minutes of the definitive version.
I was a fan of AOE II and III, but I never got around to playing the first game. So, this has my curious but nervous on what they’ll change and improve upon. I also hope the fans of the series don’t get overrun by nostalgia critics who are only after games that play very similar to how the originals played and will raise a fuss if anything is far too different.
New from THQ Nordic studio is a weird little open world brawling style game called Biomutant. The announcement trailer is a CGI clip, intended to give a basic idea of how things might play out once you get in the game. There’s also a game play trailer that came out of gamescom.
Well the game is still in early development which might explain why everything looks and feels a bit odd in the walking animation, They’ll have time to sort it out and make it look more fluid but for now it’s far more amusing to giggle at.
Tropico 6 got a trailer for gamescom to hint at how this version of the game will change from the previous five iterations. The most notable thing from the trailer being archipelago islands to grow your Caribbean country/town from. Developed by Limbic Entertainment and published by Kalypso Media its planned for a 2018 release.
There isn’t much to see or talk about, but being a fan of the previous iterations I’m curious to see how it will be different. I definitely welcome the addition of bridges and smaller islands which you can expand to. I will also put in since the publisher tends to be hit or miss with the games they put out it has me potentially worried. They tend to put in a lot of effort for the Tropico which is good, but the track record always sits in the back of my mind.
A game play trailer lasting nine minutes came out for the game Cuphead. It shows off the top down world map and the side scrolling platforming Contra style shooting. The game will be coming out on September 29, 2017 for PC and Xbox One.
I adore the art style of the game as it’s such an amazing cartoon look to it. The game play on the other hand looks off and not enticing to me personally. I can see what they’re going for, but it’s empty without much personality.
A report came out that Warner Brothers who own DC Comics is creating a stand alone Joker movie based around his origins. Attached to the project are writer Todd Phillips and Scott Silver, Phillips will be directing the film, while surprisingly Martin Scorsese will be producing the movie in some capacity. This movie will be completely separate from the DC Comic cinematic universe that involves the Justice League actors. You can read all about the announcement from Deadline.com.
I’m all for a stand alone Joker film as I think it could be a fun if not completely crazy thing to do and see. I am a bit worried about the writing team but only time will tell if they manage to pull it off. The other thing that has me worried is that this might end up being an origin story. I don’t care about Joker’s history I’ve always seen him as a bit of a mystery that probably shouldn’t be solved.
Another weekly mess cleaned up slightly if in a totally inefficiently manner but that’s generally how I do things. Anyway, thank you for visiting, leaving a like, a follow, or a comment as I like those things, however that’s a wrap for this week. For those looking to get touch with me about corrections, suggestions, or general comments there are three ways in which you can do so. There’s the comment section below, you can email me at: Lostvideogamesblog@gmail.com, or find me and message me on Twitter at: @Snipehockey.
With that once again, good night until next week needs to be wrapped up in a giant present with a big bow on top.
