Games and votes, the Steam Greenlight queue for July 15 to 17, 2015.

The Steam Greenlight queue hacks its way through the forest… wait that’s not right. My fiction writing is coming out. Nooo. Anyway. We’re back with another go around of the Greenlight voting queue. We’re going over games that have been posted for July 15 to 17, 2015.

I have a few rules I go by for these posts.

  • Games must have a trailer.
  • A game cannot look like a joke submission.
  • A game will not be included if it doesn’t look ready for Greenlight.
  • Games must be written in English on their Greenlight page. Its hard to write about a game in languages I don’t know.
  • Lastly, if a game has been reposted to Greenlight and I’ve previously talked about it. It will not be included.

Now to the Games:

Title:  Brazilian Root

Genre: FPS, Shooter

Art Style: 3D Cell Shaded World

Synopsis: A Brazilian politican running in the elections finds that his daughter has been kidnapped by armed bandits. Frustrated by the lack of police motivation, he takes matters into his own hands as a former military man.

Opinion: Looks good, and has a solid concept.

Trailer:

Title: RFLEX

Genre: Arcade

Art Style: 2D Top Down

Synopsis: A simple game that requires you to master your relexes to dodge oncoming objects, but you can only move in certain directions.

Opinion: It seems complex enough, but I wonder if there is enough there to really tempt people.

Trailer:

Title: Magic Rampage

Genre: RPG, Platformer

Art Style: 2D Hand Drawn Side Scroller

Synopsis: An action-RPG inspired by games from the 16-bit era of gaming. Lots of customization, and storytelling mechanics that put the narrative inside the action.

Opinion: Sadly, other than the mention of the storytelling mechanics inside the action, the Greenlight page doesn’t say anything about the story.

Trailer:

Title: Angry Arrows

Genre: Shooter, Arcade

Art Style: 2D Top Down Pixel

Synopsis: As an archer you must fight your way through baddies who want you dead to save a trapped woman.

Opinion: This game will live and die by its arrows and bow. If it can make that aspect of the game great, it stands a good chance of being a good game.

Trailer:

Title: Slime Jumper

Genre: Platformer

Art Style: 2D Side Scroller Pixel

Synopsis: You play as a square slime who must avoid the pratfalls and traps of levels, which includes an evil version of yourself.

Opinion: It looks like a good challenging platforming game.

Trailer:

Title: Ladra

Genre: RPG, Puzzle

Art Style: 2D Top Down

Synopsis: After losing both her parents, Estella was put in a foster home, but she ran away and is taken in by a master thief. Now grown up, she decides to use her thief skills to put a stop to the mad king’s plan to start a new war.

Opinion: While it looks like an RPG Maker Engine game, which will probably turn away a few voters, it has a cool concept.

Trailer:

Title: Inx10tcy

Genre: Puzzle, Platformer

Art Style: 2D Side Scroller

Synopsis: A minimalist platforming game, where you go from the start to the finish of a level.

Opinion: There is a point in minimalist games where it becomes too simple. I think this game is right at that point where it is too bare and simple visually.

Trailer:

Title: CMYW

Genre: Shooter, Arcade

Art Style: 2D Top Down

Synopsis: A local co-op space shooter, inspired by the likes of Asteroids and others. Your job is to work together to survive for as long as possible.

Opinion: I’m not big on local co-op on PC. It looks like it could be fun for those that do like those games though.

Trailer:

Title: Metal War Online

Genre: Shooter, Racing, MMO

Art Style: 3D Open World

Synopsis: You’re in a car and people want to destroy you for being in that vehicle. It’s corporate warfare at its finest. This game will be free to play.

Opinion: It has a nice look, reminds me of World of Tanks but with cars and turrets.

Trailer:

Title: Circuit Breakers

Genre: Shooter, Arcade

Art Style: 2D Top Down Pixel

Synopsis: A class based shooter where you must destroy the waves of enemies coming for you. It has both multiplayer and local co-op. This game is crowd funding on Kickstarter.

Opinion: It looks hectic and fast paced, which is a good thing for this kind of shooter.

Trailer:

Title: Recourse

Genre: Puzzle, Platformer

Art Style: 3D Puzzle Stages

Synopsis: Move from room to room solving the puzzles put in front of you. There is more than just puzzles though, as there are escort levels, and a wave defense mode.

Opinion: Depending on the depth of the game modes the game can either be really short or have a great value. It’s something that leaves me on the fence about it.

Trailer:

Title: MUD

Genre: Survival, RPG

Art Style: 3D Voxel Open World

Synopsis: 1000’s of years after the apocalypse humans continue their struggle to survive on earth. Now though other creatures have evolved and want to take over as the dominant species.

Opinion: Build, struggle, survive. Gather materials to build bigger and better items, and finally struggle against dangerous creatures. Sounds like most survival games.

Trailer:

Title: Mayhem Triple

Genre: Shooter, Platformer

Art Style: 2D Side Scroller

Synopsis: With humanity on the verge of extinction one man must save the day.

Opinion: It looks like an over the top shooter, with lots of guns and explosions.

Trailer:

Title: Pastoral

Genre: Simulation, Survival

Art Style: 3D Open World

Synopsis: You are a guard dog for a flock of sheep and must keep them safe from those that must eat to survive. This game is based around two wolves facing off, one protecting the flock, the other attacking.

Opinion: Interesting concept, not for me, but interesting.

Trailer:

Title: The Elements Club: Unity Match 02

Genre: Puzzle

Art Style: 2D Match Three Puzzles

Synopsis: A mix of Victorian era romance and swashbuckling attitudes. You drive the story forward through the puzzles.

Opinion: To me this Greenlight page is a bit confusing. They mix the Victorian era. with match three puzzles, along with full motion video, I just don’t get it.

Trailer:

Title: Sinless

Genre: Visual Novel

Art Style: 2D Hand Drawn

Synopsis: The world we know has come to an end, and the New World Order has taken its place creating a utopia. Then the unexpected happens to the main character as he prepared for a regular work day.

Opinion: Games like these live and die by their story, I don’t know enough about the story to give a good impression. It potentially sounds interesting, but it does not have enough details.

Trailer:

Title: Balrum

Genre: RPG, Strategy

Art Style: 2D Isometric

Synopsis: You had to flee into the darkwood with your parents as a child. But now you’ve returned as an adult, trying to find out what happened to make you run. This game successfully crowd funded on Kickstarter.

Opinion: It sounds like a very complex game that doesn’t just involve seeking out what happened. Having build up you house and survive. Complex but potentially cool.

Trailer:

Title: Dracula’s Legacy

Genre: Puzzle

Art Style: 2D Screens, with 3D

Synopsis: Your town has been taken over by a strange disease and a man comes to town claiming to be able to help. Turns out that man was Dracula and might just be the cause of all the problems.

Opinion: It is a find the hidden objects within a picture and other quick thinking puzzles. These games don’t always go over well with the crowd that votes for games on Greenlight.

Trailer:

Title: Collisions

Genre: Puzzle

Art Style: 2D Screens

Synopsis: You have a ball which you must get through a maze of obstacles.

Opinion: It’s interesting visually, because everything is cast in black foreground, with a bright background.

Trailer:

Title: Habitus

Genre: Survival, Platformer

Art Style: 2D Side Scrolling Pixel

Synopsis: You fell in love and built a home together, but you also need to go out to hunt for food. Set in prehistoric times with a procedurally generated world and small biomes to explore.

Opinion: The visuals and gameplay don’t do anything for me.

Trailer:

Title: Void Invaders

Genre: Shooter, Arcade

Art Style: 2D Top Down

Synopsis: An old school aracde space shooter with lots of colors and explosions.

Opinion: It looks fast and furious, also very colorful. They might need a seizure warning somewhere if this game goes much further though.

Trailer:

Title: Rock, the Tree Hugger

Genre: Arcade

Art Style: 3D Top Down Low Polygons

Synopsis: Roll a rock around in a forest to take down the trees and save the humans.

Opinion: Interesting is the best way to describe this game. I don’t know if it pulls off the concept, but its different in a Katamari Damacy kind of way.

Trailer:

Title: Four Realms

Genre: RPG, Platformer

Art Style: 2D Side Scroller Pixel

Synopsis: When the lands become spited by Aether, the four animal kingdoms must unite to raise a hero to defeat him. It’s is no easy task to bring these places together though. This game is crowd funding on Kickstarter.

Opinion: Nothing about the game appeals to me.

Trailer:

Title: Duel Majors

Genre: Fighting

Art Style: 3D Fighting Arenas

Synopsis: Choose a major and duke it out with other college degree majors.

Opinion: The game looks rough, and with only three fighters a bit sparse. It has potential but needs more content.

Trailer:

Title: Martha Madison

Genre: Educational

Art Style: 3D game world

Synopsis: A game that teaches kids in four different ideas and concepts.

Opinion: Not a game aimed towards me in particular more towards kids and parents. Still worth a look.

Trailer:

Title: End State

Genre: Strategy

Art Style: 3D Isometric Maps

Synopsis: Take control of an unit of soldiers who must work their way through a war torn Eastern European country.

Opinion: It looks solid and the turn based elements can really make a game like this shine.

Trailer:

Title: Pixel Sand

Genre: Platformer

Art Style: 2D Side Scroller Pixel

Synopsis: As you platform your way across levels, use the elements to get you there. From building to destroying objects.

Opinion: It could be cool. The game doesn’t really do it for me though. I think my problem is the way the pixel art was done and the way it creates platforms or destroys things.

Trailer:

Title: A Little Less Desperation

Genre: Adventure, Puzzle

Art Style: 3D Side Scroller

Synopsis: This is the story of Jacob who wandered in trying to sell organic vegetables, but now is on his way to be a space hero. He found a UFO with an alien inside and has been recruited to helping to get the ship back up and flying.

Opinion: Looks quirky, and possibly funny.

Trailer:

Title: Void Clash

Genre: Shooter, MMO

Art Style: 2D Top Down

Synopsis: A multiplayer arena based spaceship shooter. Shoot your enemies before they get you.

Opinion: If the game manages to keep a fast pace and the action fun, it should be good.

Trailer:

Title: Tank Tactics

Genre: Strategy, Shooter

Art Style: 2D Top Down

Synopsis: Get into a tank and blow stuff up.

Opinion: I’m not terribly impressed by the trailer. The arena you’re fighting in looks cramped and the action confined to just you shooting and hoping.

Trailer:

Title: Walk the Light

Genre: Platformer, Puzzle

Art Style: 2D Side Scroller

Synopsis: You play as Charlie an electrican who finds himself lost in a long lost cavern. Now with the help of the light he must figure out a way to get out. You control both the light and Charlie.

Opinion: Could be good, seems like a fun simple platforming game.
