Activision relaunched the Sierra brand when it teased the logo just before Gamescom this year. King’s Quest was rumored to be coming back and has been confirmed that it will be getting a full reboot of the franchise.
Unfortunately no video or screenshots of the game have been released. The game is being developed by The Odd Gentlemen who made The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom.
The King’s Quest franchise has been around since 1980 when Wizard and the Princess also known as Adventure in Sernia came out. That game was a prequel to what would become known as the King’s Quest series. The first game to carry that title was the 1983 game King’s Quest: Quest for the Crown. From there on out the franchise became known for its difficult puzzles and how easily you could die in the game. Also the fact that you could use puzzle items in your inventory on other things, made for quite a few game breaking moments. The last game in the series to come out was in 1998, titled King’s Quest: Mask of Eternity.
It will be interesting to see if developers The Odd Gentlemen bring back that difficulty or tone it down to be more friendly to today’s gamers.
Sierra will not just be focusing on old franchises though. They will be working with indie developers to create unique games.
